Ivan Petrovich Pavlov was a priest's son, born in Rayazan, near Moscow. He thought of following; in his father's footsteps, but instead enrolled at St. Petersburg University, where he studied science and physiology. After receiving; a medical degree from the Medico?Chirugical Academy, he remained on staff at the institution and did scientific research. In 1902. Pavlov bean his most famous research, applying his physiological training to psychology. In his experiments, he showed that if dog heard a bell every time he was shown fond, his digestive enzymes would eventually start flowing; whenever the bell was rung. His study of conditioned reflexes was so influential that he received the Nobel Prize in 1904. He was recognized as a great scientist in Russia, despite the fact that he disagreed with communism.
