Donovan got his job through the Los Angeles Concierge Association's placement service. He had formerly been a concierge at the Biltmore Hotel, and the Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades. There was even a four-year block where Donovan worked as a personal valet for Bob Hope. It was his link to Hope that would lead Donovan to campaign to have the British born entertainer knighted; an effort that would meet with success.
Donovan's uniform is a red and black frock coat, black tie, white gloves, and a top hat, which are complimented by Rodeo Drive staples like Cole-Haan shoes and Versace sunglasses. Donovan will point potential shoppers towards any of the twenty-four shops on Rodeo Drive such as Cartier, Christian Dior, and Jose Eber.
If tourists are looking to see the stars and not the shops, Gregg Donovan has pointed out the likes of Sharon Stone, Anthony Hopkins, Warren Beattly, designer Donatella Versace, and Dennis Hopper. He will even show the curious where famed "Pretty Woman" hotel, the Beverly Wilshire, is located.
What are some of the greetings Gregg Donovan offers?
