September 30, 1955
James Dean, the brooding film actor who won acclaim in "Giant", "East of Eden" and "Rebel Without a Cause", died in a car crash in Cholame, California, a tiny farm town. Dean, was killed when his Porsche Spider ran into another car, head-on at 75 miles an hour. Deanís mechanic also died in the crash.

In October, 1994, Amtrak railways cancelled $2 million in advertising with "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" to retaliate against the frequent jokes Leno told on the show about the railway. Amtrak had complained several times, demanding that the wisecracks be stopped. Leno continued to take potshots, prompting Amtrak's cancellation.
